“Night Watcher” #1 / Microchurch.

75364021-1200px The study of human nature is the study of darkness and light in us.

More and more I find myself “a watcher”. I believe wisdom dictates it. I’m always looking “big picture”. I set my life according to the Infinite, not the finite. I have a mission in this earth and I must not let the foolishness of others interfere with the treasure I see before me.

America is in trouble, but mostly because “the church” is in trouble. There is no city upon a hill lifting a true standard of light for us to find our way. And now those seeds are coming to harvest.

“The night watchmen found me as they made their rounds. They beat and bruised me and stripped off my veil, those watchmen on the walls.” (Song of Songs 5:7)

No other book of the Bible is speaking to me louder at this time than the “Song of Solomon”, also known as “Song of Songs”. A materialistic money loving church has become comfortable in her bed and failed to rise when her lover showed up, dripping with the anointing. Now she is out in the darkness and in the streets searching for Him, and he is not to be found by her. The Night Watchmen find her and she is beaten and treated as a common thief.

Spiritually we are back at King Saul and a rising shepherd boy named David. We have two churches. The old traditional system that has been the status quo for many generations, and a rising young lad of an idea/ vision that is yet to prove itself. The one is very large, the other small, as in Microchurch. This is what I believe I have seen. I believe it so much that I put my feet where my mouth is and left the King Saul church to begin running with David. We got to get the anointing back! We got to bring the Ark of the Covenant back into the church, the body of Christ!

We are all aware of the perfect storm we’re in. Frustration is starting to set in as conflicting messages whirl all about us. People are beginning to reach max stress point. No one knows what to do with Covid, or what it will do with us as the next flu season arrives? Fear sweeps through the streets like a winter wind. Add Racism, protests, and rioting to the mix. Add a very heated election to the mix. Add China to the mix. Add people being evicted, loss of jobs, poverty, hate, media propaganda, and whatever else may be next to this mix. And what to do with our precious children? Go to school or not? Have we ever seen such a time? And where is the church in all this?  Lost in a virtual world of “my best life now”.

David was a rag-tag group of mighty men before King Saul was finally overthrown by God Himself. There is a journey of the white owl we need to make, a journey of pure wisdom. This blog site will not be liked by the King Saul’s of this world, but maybe there are a few who are drawn to the caves of David.

Jonah admitted to the pagan sailors that the storm was because of him. Have we admitted this yet? Are we willing to be thrown overboard by the pagans? Or do we stay asleep in the bottom of the boat having our virtual services?

Violence is filling the land. The Magnificent Mile in Chicago was a result of foolish leadership entrenched in high places. They have tunnel vision. They refuse to see the forest because they have a tree or two they love. They love the finite rather than the Infinite, and yes… that is as foolish as Esau selling his birthright for a pot of beans! Anyone should be able to “SEE” it! And yet they don’t?

In recent months we could point to many such examples taking place in our cities. My own city of Indianapolis, the downtown area has been crippled! No one is going there. They fear for their life when they do. Stores are going out of business. And yet our leaders fail to fix the problem. The forest is burning while they drool over a few seeds they plan to plant.

They are determined to burn down the forest in order to plant their own tree. But I am not of their way, and I have a mandate from heaven to perform in the midst of even this perfect storm. How will God see it through? Can we walk on water? Can God keep us in the eye of the hurricane? And what shall come of the King Saul church and their King Theology? More virtual reality? We shall see… because I intend to be a Night Watchman.

“What I want in a Micro/House Church” #1

5883 What am I looking for in a Micro Church, a House Church, that I cannot find in our modern big church system? I want to explore that personal question in this series. It is the Sunday morning after 4th of July as I find myself in a quiet place and God moves me with these thoughts.

Yesterday was anything but quiet. Our house became a family festival with 4 grand kids, 3 of our own adult-kids and their spouses, my wife and I (the grandparents), and all the food and activities that were planned, including a slip and slide, obstacle course, and pinata full of candy to bust. We were mostly outside and it was hot, but we had a breeze and shade tree, and then a downpour rain eventually came as we were trying to bust the pinata with a plastic bat. It was not working. The rain kept pouring. Grandpa fetched his wood Samurai training sword. That worked. Candy scattered everywhere. Children dove in for the treasure. We were all soaked. LOL. Great fun and much chaos.

But now “the quiet”. I’m by my French Doors that look out into my bird sanctuary, and I hear singing. The house is empty. Just me and 2 dogs. My coffee is good. Bitter as usual. Waking me up and got me pondering. What kind of Micro Church am I looking for? Why do I think the House Church vision is a better way? What can the House Church do different, better?

I intend to approach this in 3 parts. 1.) The Leader/ Elder. 2.) The People/ Fellowship. 3.) The Vision/ Goals/ Description/ Format. (This will include a few personal peeves of mine concerning what I believe to be certain errors in our modern church ways. Important practices of the early church that we have changed.)

I’m writing this series in hopes that others in Indianapolis Indiana have started Micro Churches. Our Fellowship is still very small and I would be interested in connecting with other groups “if” we were of a similar vision. I would even consider joining such a group. But I’m not interested in big church cell groups. I’ve tried them before. It just isn’t the same thing. It still lacks what I’m looking for, the vision in me.

So…starting next article we will describe what I’m looking for in the “Leader” of such a group. Then we will look at “the People”, and then “the Vision/ Practice” of said group. Until then, ponder for yourself what you think a House Church should be, and how it should function.  Or if you think House Churches are not a good idea, then why did it work so well in powerful Rome? And why is it working so well in other countries today, many of whom have much more difficult circumstances than we do. I invite you to have an open mind to the coming articles and consider them as a real possibility.

Finally, if you are a Micro Church somewhere around Indianapolis Indiana, or you are someone looking for one, and you are willing to meet and talk, please leave a comment and we can arrange a meeting place. I very much enjoy fellowship and conversation around this subject.   We live in a day where we have a lot of communication and pass a lot of information, but we’re losing the simple pleasures of conversation.

I believe Micro Church/ House Church is here to stay. It may be the new wine skin with the new wine God is pouring out for these last days. The big churches don’t want to hear it, and yet look what has been forced upon them in the COVID. Is God forcing their hand? Trying to get their attention?

Our small Fellowship has been able to continue as we always have during this pandemic. We have watched the big churches struggle, stress, and scramble as they provide their “virtual” church services. Our Fellowship is still very up close and personal. But some people don’t want up close. And those people should definitely reexamine their Christianity to see if they are real. Real family is personal, and we all NEED it! For our own pleasure and good. Think about it.

A Prayer > “Father, make us REAL. In the name of your Son, Jesus, first born from the dead, I ask for an outpouring of “REAL” in your people today. Let us come out from the FAKE, and let us be REAL. Let us not be what we see so much of in the world, and it disgusts us. Let us not be what we are so disgusted by in others. By the power of your Holy Spirit make us TRUE, for that is the only way we can be so, is by your power alone. In Jesus name I ask these things, Amen.” (Be blessed and Highly favored, everyone; but don’t be spiritually unprepared.)

“Staying Warm”

20190130_142026 Yes it is verrry cold in Indianapolis Indiana! It’s windchill of minus 14 and on way to windchill of minus 30-40! Yikes! But the wife and I are snuggled up and enjoying the great indoors.

For some odd reason she surprised me with a stuffed animal of a sloth! Now she has always liked turtles, and I gave her the nick name of Turtle Faith Lady. So when I sat down the other night and found a sloth staring at me, I got her stuffed animal and put her right where she belongs, in my arms! Especially with as cold as it is.

Okay, she likes the story of Yinney the Sloth so far, and wanted to surprise me. I do really like it, because I am so enjoying this unfolding story of Yinney and his 7th Day Tree. I usually never have a well developed plot. I like a very general and flexible idea, because I never know where the character and their story are going to take me. I like to let a story lead me where it wants to go, so most of the time I get a lot of surprises along the way too. I like it that way.

We are 10 chapters into the story now, and Yinney has his sacred tree and a dire warning about Predator Cities. (Terminology I picked up in a movie, but it fits so well.) He also had a vision of a man coming from another land whom he will speak to. How can this be? And what does he have to say to such a man? And what danger are these cities to Yinney, who lives so far away, deep in the jungles of the Amazon?

All these are good questions I’m looking forward to learning the answers to. So… hope you all are staying warm wherever you may be. We had a couple thousand power outages around here. Our place was spared. Most of those people are back up and running, thank goodness, but we still have one more night of this, so all you people in those warm southern states, please keep us all in your prayers, and we will be back up to a nice toasty 16 degrees before you know it! Ya!

If you have not read the developing story of Yinney, I hope you check it out. Many more chapters coming soon. Have you had your Yinney today?
