“Super Power Series” #2

20190807_124624
An I-Beam from the fallen Towers of NYC. The sun can shine its guts out, but if the hearts of man are full of darkness then the whole world is dark. The sun is not the light of this world!

The weight of the world is upon our shoulders. Do you feel it church? You should! Blessed are they that mourn? Are you feeling the pain of our present age? Or are you cozy, protected, untouched in your personal comfort zone? How do you change the hate filled hearts and minds of our present age? That is the task assigned to us and we are failing! Is it the world’s fault? Or ours?

George Floyd. Need I say more? Covid 19. Corona. Need I say more? Nursing homes. Need I say more? The Twin Towers of NYC. Need I say more? And who has the power to change all this? Only a powerful church. That’s right. Because… the sun above is not the light of this world. That sun can shine its guts out but if the hearts and minds of people are dark, the whole world is full of darkness, and how great is that darkness! God says in the days of Noah the whole earth was filled with violence!

I know this is crazy, but at this time, on this Pentecost weekend, God has me doing a series on POWER? Hhmm. This ought to be good. God’s got to prove it to me on this one.

Real LOVE cannot be mass produced on any assembly line or forced into society by any man-made laws. Build as many jails as you like, it won’t change hearts. God has assigned his church that responsibility to be a light upon a hill and the standard for all to follow, but we are failing miserably. Where is the POWER? The early church turned the world upside down, but not us. The world has turned us upside down! And so much so that were depending on a man like Trump to save us. Sad indeed. Pathetic.

We know where the POWER is, don’t we? But it will cost us. It will cost us “personally”. Who’s willing to pay the price? Evidently not enough of us. At least not yet. How bad will it need to get before we get back to the POWER?

We talked about POWERS in the first episode, and how God gave you some…in your creation… in the primordial supernatural soup he stirred you in. But you think it is silly to consider your gift to teach, or write, or sing, or invent, or lead, or run faster than anyone, or lift more weight… you think it is silly to think of these as super powers that can save some one, or some few, or a multitude? What are your God given POWERS? The reason they can’t save the world is because your using them in your own power, not God’s!

Yes, there is a price. The oil of his anointing. The Day of Pentecost. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Child of God…if you claim his Name…then this is your POWER…but are we the foolish, or the wise? Have we lost all knowledge of the old ways? The magic, the mystery, the paradox, the supernatural!

In the first episode I spoke of my top three super powers. Teacher of God’s word, writer, and working with my hands to remodel homes. I just spent all morning putting new shingles on our roof the old fashioned way, with nail and hammer. No air gun. Just my hammer and a bucket of nails.  That super power blesses my wife, and perhaps a few others, but it won’t save the world. However, words on paper, or blog, this thing I’m doing now…it has POWER to INSPIRE! To change hearts and minds! To bring LIGHT! Ignite a FIRE! The message of Christ is the only LIGHT in this world, because it is the message of pure LOVE, and no HATE! It is the message of the changed heart empowered by God!

The sun can shine all day but the world is a dark place because of the hearts and minds of people. And the modern church fails. People are leaving her to find the simplicity of what does not fail. Some would rather walk on water than have a fat bank account. The love of money, the greed, the distractions, the stress, the self-centered mindset, nothing but cement shoes pulling you down, like Peter when he took his eyes off the Lord.

We got to get back to the POWER. For the church, and for God’s people, the POWER is connected to the supernatural. The magic, mystery, paradox, and Spirit of God. The modern church is too lukewarm to know of these things. In our House Fellowship this week, we had another Lord’s Supper, Communion, and prayer to be counted faithful for whatever God may pour out of his Spirit today, and every day! And we did not miss Passover! Which set us up for the Pentecost, but what does our modern church know of these things?

You know, the right song sung by an anointed minstrel of God can change the world. That’s a super power. The right teacher… the right servant…the right mechanic… the right police officer… the right politician… the right plumber (such as Smith Wigglesworth), can potentially change the world when God’s POWER flows through them. The modern church has incredible talent, but who’s writing and singing the songs that’s changing the world? Where is the POWER? It’s not the modern church. What good is your talent without the power of God?

So how do you shine the light of Christ? How does he shine through you? Is it with POWER? Are you willing to pay a price? Are we paying the price, making the sacrifices all Priest are called to make? Or is it just a game with you? Not to be taken that seriously? C’mon now, nobody really lives like that now days, do they? Hhmmm. And that’s why we are where we are today, the whole earth filling with violence and becoming the Days of Noah.

No one fast anymore. No one really prays. No one memorizes chapters of their Bible. No one gives their money away and risk poverty. No one loves to the point of real sacrifice anymore. UNLESS… someone begins to get a vision… and God breathes on us…and breath begins to enliven the dry bones of a dead army! Can the sails of such a mighty ship be filled with heaven’s Wind again? Can these bones live again?

I’ve seen a lot of heroes during these COVID days. But where are the godly?  There are a few, but too few. The light of the church is more than showing the light of the “good”, but it is also about the LIGHT of the GODLY. We need to set our bar higher. The world and the worldly are making us look bad. What we see in the earth today, it’s our fault! As the scriptures say: If… “MY”… people…. It’s our fault. I don’t expect unbelievers, or even those who play at being saved, to understand what I’m saying in this article. But an awakening has happened, and there are those who do. Perhaps I write for them.

A final note> It’s time for me to begin reaching out more with our Home Fellowship. We have more room in the house now. Yes, it is still a work in progress, but perhaps there are some who would like to be a part of that. We are located on west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. If you would like to “meet”, simply leave a comment and we will set up a place and time. We’ll enjoy a cup of coffee, some conversation, and go from there. Simplicity is one of our values in this Fellowship. It don’t get much simpler than coffee and conversation. I’ll buy.

We have much more to write on this “Super Powers Series”. More coming soon.

Let us come together and share our super powers, that we might turn the world upside down, before it explodes from within. Perhaps God will grant a little more time.

“Your Strongest Super Power”

20190820_115546 All Superheroes have a super power, but what did God give you? The very fact you’re not good at a lot of things, but very good at a few, shows where your powers lie. How much are you using them? Do you get to use them?

Obviously I’m not talking about your ability to dodge bullets, leap over tall buildings, or throw cars around, but I’ll bet you’re like me, not very good at a lot of things, but above average in a few, and that’s where you love to live. That’s where you come alive!

I’ve heard people with a gift to sing sending chills up my spine in awe! But I can’t. I’m also not mechanical. I love hot cars but I’ve never had one because I hate working on them! And hiring it done is too expensive! So no sleek muscle car for me. But I can live with that, because those are not my super powers, as much as I might enjoy it if they were.

After all, Spiderman can’t be Wolverine, he has to be Spiderman! And the world needs a Spiderman! How would it look if Aquaman tried to be Thor? Or Black Widow, Captain America? We each must be who we are, not who we are not, and each of us have our own powers.

What would be my top three? I love writing… and teaching spiritual things of God… and I’m pretty good at remodeling a house. I hate working on a car, but I enjoy improving a house. I seem to understand what it takes for a house to work much more than I do a car. I also understand a life that flows in Spirit, walking in the power of God. I understand how God has designed things to work, and I love studying it, digging for deeper understandings.

So what would I choose as my top super power, out of those three? Teaching the power of a life with God. No question about it, that’s me. Even all my writings pertain to that in some way. But I made my living as a truck driver. As of yet, writing and teaching has never paid the bills, but that’s alright, Spidey was under appreciated too, and I still love my powers. In fact, God never meant for our powers to be about the money. For many of us, the lure of money is a danger to the proper use of our super powers.

But why am I bringing this up? To ask you if you’re using your super powers? Do they have a place on a front burner, or are they lost in a life out of control? And are you using your powers for God, the one who gave them to you? Oh you may think you’re just that good! But no, you accidentally fell into a vat of weird unknown chemicals and instead of it killing you, YOU BECAME YOU! I hope you like yourself. God wants you to.

Perhaps you’re not happy with his choices? You’re stuck with being Spiderman and you’d rather be Thor? Well I suggest you get over it! Be thankful you’re still alive! (After falling in that vat!) Start being the best Spiderman you can be. There are a lot of people out there needing what O’Spidey has to offer. They need help and Spidey can save the day, if he will. Get right with God and get those super powers in gear. And don’t forget to thank him for your incredible life. The life you have the chance to live, if you just begin to truly appreciate and develop your God-given gifts. It’s supernatural.

So what’s your top three? And what do you choose as your number one?

This is just something a little different from Soul Sailor tonight. Just the mood I’m in.

I built this teepee as a spiritual get-away. Jesus was both a physical and spiritual carpenter too.

“Yinney” Chapter 18

New-York-City-night2 “Gotham needs me,” Frank spoke to the mirror on the wall. The same mirror he had been speaking to for many years, but the image looking back at him had changed, and he no longer felt the same.

After twenty years on the force as a police officer in the big city, NYPD, he was no longer the young adventurous guy who first chose to be an officer of the law. His feelings had changed, his reasons had changed, but he still felt good about what he did because the need was so great, and somebody had to do it. You simply cannot have a civil society without laws and someone enforcing them. There were simply to many predators out there.

Without laws and those enforcing them, things revert to the wild wild west; only it would be even worse, because our guns are bigger and our horses faster. Also, respect for life had eroded away. Now days you can be shot and killed just trying to give out a speeding ticket. Frank did not like the direction society was taking. As a matter of fact, it scared him. Something in the air of our modern day caused a desperation in people he thought he would never see. The nights were becoming darker, even a gross darkness!

He did not fear for himself so much, although he did not want to die, but he feared for loved ones, which now included a new romance. His first love, Jane, had passed away with cancer two years ago. Their youngest child moved out two months ago. All three children now raised and flown the coop, an empty nest. The small house was so darn quiet.

For almost two years he had grieved, missed Jane, and buried himself in his work, which was easy to do and a lot of officers did it. But he knew he would eventually come out of it. He trusted the fates to accidentally meet someone. After a year or so, he kept an open eye, but was not seriously hunting. It would either happen or not. He could stay buried in his work if need be, and be happy. He did love the job, the thrill of the night, the city beat, helping people in real need, often life and death situations.

He had always worked at night. The real bad guys come out in the night. In the beginning it was the thrill as much as anything else, but now he understood the laws of the jungle, eat or be eaten, those predators having no respect for anything, anyone, or even life itself. They had to be stopped. They had to be stopped every night or no one could hope to enjoy a peaceful life, raise a family, enjoy the good things. Not even true love would be safe. Especially true love.

As he surveyed himself in the old mirror, taking stock of what it showed, he was aware of every weakness he tried to hide. Show no weakness to a predator. How much longer could he do this? There are younger officers. Maybe he should take a desk job? No, not ready for that yet. At forty-three he still had a lot to give. True, this job had beat him up a lot, but the thought of a desk job simply would not do. He was an aging Batman now, but he could still do it, it just hurt a little more. Okay, a lot more.

Finally leaving the mirror he turned to a nearby table and picked up the framed photo of Rachel. A larger framed picture of Jane still graced the table too, and he would never forget her. Could anyone ever even come close to Jane? He did not know as he put the picture of Rachel back on the table and turned to head out into the night, facing the foolish, the drunken, the desperate, and the predators.

Rachel was out there too, and his three children. Yes, he felt good to be a fighting force against a society that could so quickly turn jungle, if it were not for those still willing to take an oath and wear a badge. She would be getting off soon from her job at the coffee cafe. That was how he met her.

Rachel was a divorcee. Very sad story, really. Suddenly forced into the working world, she had landed the job at the cafe. She enjoyed learning how to make the different coffees and connecting with the regular customers. She was a natural for the job and content in her new life, but then they met. Frank knew he was falling in love again, but was she? He wasn’t sure. But time would tell and he was enjoying life fully again. It felt good.

Time to go.
